My blog is called TeenCROCHET, but what is crocheting? You use a hook to connect loops of yarn. When you connect all those loops of yarn, you can create many things!!
What do you use to crochet?
Like I said, the main tools in crocheting are a hook and yarn. But there are some other important tools.
Scissors are useful for cutting the yarn when you finish a project.
Metal Yarn needles are extremely important when you want to sew your crochet together or weave in the ends of your yarn.
Safety pins you can use as stitch markers so you don't lose the start of a round or when you want to mark a stitch!
A tape measure can help you measure to make sure the piece you are crocheting is long enough
So many different types of crochet hooks are out there! Metal, plastic, and wood hooks! So many different sizes too! My favorite personal favorites, are Boyde hooks. They come in a wide variety of sizes
A quick tip on hooks, the bigger the yarn you use, the bigger the hook you want to use want to use
There are four main stitches that make up most crochet patterns out there. You start out with a foundation chain. Then there is the slip stitch, single crochet stitch, half-double-crochet stitch, and double crochet stitch.
There are many books and tutorials out there to teach you how to crochet. I have looked at many how-to-crochet books and the book I learned on is my personal favorite! I cannot recommend the yarn and hook that comes with the book, but the book itself is amazing!! You can buy it here at Barnes and Noble.
You can also find video tutorials and more tutorials on how-to-crochet online. A good place to look is Pinterest. I hope to have a list of good how-to-crochet tutorials sometime soon.
So now that you can crochet........What do you make? You can make so many things!! You can make clothes, accessories, toys, amigurumi, blankets, and so much more!!
Sometime in the future I am going to do posts of some of my favorite patterns! I have also written some patterns that would be perfect for beginners, which I will be posting soon!!
Are you excited for all the things coming soon?? I can't wait!!
Talk to you soon,
Emma<3
